De Bristol loodskotter was snel, zeewaardig en betrouwbaar onder alle weersomstandigheden. Niet voor niets koos Tilman voor dit scheepstype op zijn ontdekkingstochten naar Patagonië en Groenland. Hij bezat er drie: Mischief, Sea Breeze en Baroque.
